One reason is that on most days, we rarely listen to music in 3/4 time. (Have you heard any pop stars perform songs in 3/4 meter lately? When was the last time you heard a new waltz on the radio?)
I realized early in my years of teaching piano that we need more modern beginner piano music in 3/4 time, otherwise students will continue to struggle with it. Piano teachers can count "1-2-3 1-2-3" until they're blue in the face, but in the end, every student needs to learn to feel the music themselves!
